(Jon sez:) We have armor cloth nowadays, of course, in the form of Kevlar and the like, but it tends to be relatively bulky. Kevlar draws its strength from the geometry of its chemical bonds and the regularity of its internal structure (thank you Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory). How much stronger could an analogue of Kevlar be if it was carefully assembled atom by atom by nanotechnology, creating even more regular symmetry? Uh, that's all. I'm feeling phlegmatic today. |
(Mark sez:) Ladies, I give you the true way to a man's heart: get him a new trenchcoat. "Qin" is of course the Artificial Intelligence embodied, or formerly embodied, within the Martian cruiser Qin Shihuangdi. Qin is currently unemployed due to an awkward encounter with the Solar Navy's decoherence beam and was last seen being smuggled out of the doomed ship by Caprice. I imagine we'll be seeing more of him ("him"? yes, it would seem so) after not too long. |
