(Jon sez:) This part of A Miracle of Science takes place, as the guys from Mystery Science Theater would say, "On the Moon! In the future!" I was born just before the first man walked on the Moon. Mark was born around the time the last man left. We're both space enthusiasts, although I'm the lunatic who actually majored in astronomy. (I later decided to switch my major to computer science. More money, less bureaucracy, cooler cars.) I hope that one day we'll have multiple space stations in orbit, routine interplanetary travel, and cities on the Moon. I don't expect to see it in my lifetime, though, unless we actually experience some kind of technological Singularity. It was half a millennium between the time the first Europeans - tenth century Vikings - saw North America and the first successful European colonization of the continent. And it was a lot easier to get to North America than it is to get to the Moon. So, while I'm Earthbound, I'll content myself with viewing the Perseid meteor shower. |
(Mark sez:) Ehm... I've gone through a couple of versions of "Mark sez" and realized that I just don't quite have anything to say today. Ah-heh. Well, enjoy the comic anyway, won't you? |
