The Unseen Hand

A new Impro, created by the lovely and talented Andrael. Posit: the "small gods," supernatural entities with very small and unspectacular specialties -- so there might be a small god of vending machines, say, or of a particular street corner. They don't get the press attention the Olympian Gods do, but without them civilization would grind to a halt. Now they're being murdered one by one, and it's up to Aya Bellarmine, a member of SIGIL (a secret organization which keeps tabs on the paranormal) to solve the case.

Beneath all the supernatural tomfoolery, this is basically that part of every detective story where, y'know, Sergeant Bradshaw drops by private eye Nick Danger's office and orders him to keep his nose out of police business. This "sergeant" is a real mythological figure, by the way -- she's one of the three Furies of Greek mythology, Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone. They sometimes symbolized justice, or at least vengeance, but spent just as much of their time carrying out the gods' dirty work. I had a character design of Alecto sitting around from a previous project, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to give her life. Terrifyingly, as the story develops further, it's turning out that Alecto is the nice Fury.

That picture of the Chrysler Building on Page 24 is from this great NYC Skyscrapers photo page. And I would like to formally apologize to all New Yorkers for putting the World Trade Center in the middle of Central Park.
